Traversing the Bear Creek Trail

February 10, 2026 · 4 min read

I shouldn't even be able to ride down this trail at this time of year. There should be a snowdrift, or it should be too slushy to cruise around here without a fat tire setup. At the bare minimum it should at least be too fucking cold for me to be out here.

But alas, here we are in the driest, warmest Colorado winter on record. Thanks, Exxon bros. On the one hand, I'm thankful for the opportunity to cycle this early in the season, but I know what this is going to mean for the summer-- water restrictions, and smoky skies. And every local meteorologist will be bitching about the conditions without so much as a mention of the true root cause-- climate change. And you'll know why they're so tight-lipped, once you see how many ad spots the Colorado Oil and Gas Industry have bought on their networks. Sigh, guess I should just make lemonade out of these lemons. Hell, maybe I'll be able to grow a fucking lemon TREE here pretty soon.

A Note on the Video

This is one of my first attempts at posting my Go Pro footage on You Tube. I used the Go Pro Player app to do the auto-smoothing and just edited the film in Apple's no-frills, iMovie. Nothing fancy, but we shall see how my directorial skills evolve.

I'm using the entry model Go Pro Hero compact camera, and I've moved on from the chest mount to the handle bar mount which has definitely been an improvement. As for the music, this is just what I've been able to find on the public domain. I am surprised there's so many people that spend the time to make music just put it online and give it away for free without any need for attribution. Is it generosity, or does their music all just objectively suck? You be the judge.
