Riding Lee Gulch
March 29, 2026 · 4 min read
Here's yet another cycling video as part of a weekend loop ride I did in March of 2026 in the South Suburban Trail System. Located off the Mary Carter Greenway, a main regional thoroughfare that straddles both sides of the Platte River, Lee Gulch is a fun, mostly gravel artery that weaves through parks and residential areas before connecting with the 71-mile High Line Canal Trail.
I've gotten my money's worth out of this Giant Revolt Advanced gravel bike over the last four years or so I've had it. It feels practically weightless gliding over these gravel paths, and is equally adept on the pavement. The Shimano GRX shifters are buttery smooth, and the hydraulic braking system has always been instantaneous and reliable. The few times I have descended down the steeper more gnarly terrain, they have never let me down. Of course, then again, this is the only gravel bike I've ever owned, so who knows what I might be missing out on.
I have definitely seen its limitations as compared to mountain bikes as well. I can do some beginner to early intermediate mountain terrain, but the lack of fork and body suspension makes the rockier parts a no-go. Will I bite the bullet, and finally after all these years, full send start mountain biking? Maybe, but last time I was out with a mixed group of mountain and gravel bikers, someone on a mountain bike flipped over their handle bars and ate shit so badly he got a dislocated shoulder.
